Capricorn
What is built slowly and lasts a long time is the domain of Capricorn, the tenth sign of the zodiac. Serious, persevering and responsible, it lends every planet placed in it a concern for effort and for results that endure.
Earth that builds
Capricorn belongs to the earth element, with Taurus and Virgo. Earth is the element of the concrete, of reality and of duration. Its modality is cardinal, like that of Aries, Cancer and Libra: Capricorn opens the winter in the northern hemisphere and takes the initiative, but a considered initiative, aimed at a distant goal. This is earth organising itself to climb the mountain, step by step, saving its strength to reach the summit.
Its ruler is Saturn, which is at home here: patience, discipline and a sense of limits become strengths. Mars is exalted in Capricorn, because energy is put to the service of an objective and gains in endurance. The Moon is in detriment, emotions being expressed with restraint, and Jupiter is in its fall: optimism is tempered by caution. Opposite lies Cancer. The axis they form links public and private life, the role a person plays and the home where they rest.
Endurance and reserve
Capricorn knows how to wait and how to work. It sets itself a goal and sticks to it, even when results are slow to come, and it inspires trust through its reliability. Its gift is a sense of responsibility: it takes things in hand, keeps its commitments, accepts the roles others run from. A realist, it knows what is possible and how to get there. Behind the reserve, those close to it know a dry humour and a warmth it keeps for people who have earned its trust.
These high standards have a downside. Capricorn can be too hard, on itself first, then on others, and confuse its worth with what it achieves. Fear of failure sometimes pushes it to control everything or to give up pleasure in the name of duty. It can also seem cold, when it is simply afraid of showing vulnerability. Rest often feels to it like a failing, and tenderness like a risk.
Capricorn over the long run
Capricorn opens up slowly, but what it gives is solid. Its friends are often lifelong ones, and it is there when something needs doing rather than saying. Work is its element: ambitious and organised, it can carry a project over the long haul and take on responsibility. In love, it commits seriously, sometimes after long reflection, and its attachment shows through constancy, protection and plans built together.
With Capricorn, a couple gains a reassuring sense of the long term. It expects respect, reliability and a partner who understands how much its goals matter to it. Expressing emotions, leaving room for the unexpected without planning everything: that is what costs it. Its tenderness exists all the same, and it is easier to read over time than in the moment: a commitment kept, a presence that does not waver.
