How your report is built

Every sentence in your report points back to a calculation you can check. Here, step by step, is what happens between your birth date and the PDF you receive. The example follows the relationship report.

Step 1

What you give

A date, a place and, if you know it, a time. The place is chosen from GeoNames, a public database of the world’s towns: it gives the coordinates and the time zone, with the daylight saving rules in force on the day of birth.

  • Unknown time

The chart is calculated for noon, local time, with no houses and no Ascendant. The Moon can then be off by up to 8°, and the report says so every time.

  • Repeated time

When the clocks go back, the same hour happens twice. You choose which one: nothing is guessed.

  • Missing time

When the clocks go forward, an hour is skipped. If you enter it, nothing is calculated and you are told why.

Step 2

What the engine calculates

Positions are calculated with Swiss Ephemeris, the ephemeris published by Astrodienst (astro.com), in the tropical zodiac with Placidus houses. For each person: the ten planets from the Sun to Pluto, the lunar nodes, Chiron, the Ascendant and the Midheaven.

Then the two charts are compared: every contact between a body of one and a body of the other, and each person’s planets in the other’s houses. A contact only counts within a precise margin, the orb.

Aspects and orbs used between the two charts
AspectAngleOrbWith Uranus, Neptune or Pluto
Conjunction0°6°3°
Sextile60°4°2°
Square90°5°2°
Trine120°5°2°
Opposition180°6°3°
  • One extra degree when the Sun or the Moon is involved.
  • Uranus, Neptune and Pluto move so slowly that they sit in almost the same place for a whole generation: their contacts only count at a tight orb.
  • Contacts to the other person’s Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven and IC: 4°, and 3° between two of these angles. Only when the birth time is known.
  • Lunar nodes: conjunction, square and opposition at 3°, and 2° from one axis to the other.
  • Chiron: towards the other person’s Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars and angles, in conjunction, square and opposition at 3°. Never Chiron to Chiron.

Step 3

What is read first

Every calculated contact is passed on to the writing, except generational facts, with ordering rules that stay the same from one report to the next.

  1. Personal planets first (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars), then Jupiter and Saturn, then Chiron, then Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
  2. A tight contact comes before a wide one, and a planet on an angle before a planet further away.
  3. A contact between two slow planets (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto), or between the same planet from Jupiter to Pluto in both charts (Saturn and Saturn), is a generational fact: it is not passed on to the writing.
  4. Two contacts that answer each other, such as one person’s Venus on the other’s Mars and the reverse, are read together.
  5. No contact becomes a score: there is no compatibility rating.

Step 4

How the text is written

The writing states no fact: no sign, no house, no degree. It places a reference to a calculated contact; the calculation removes the reference from the text and lists the fact under the passage. Only a technical word the calculation does not confirm keeps the true fact next to it, in parentheses.

A chapter from the sample report · Communication and understanding

Lou's Mercury sits deep in the private twelfth house of Lou's own chart, a placement built for internal, often unspoken processing before anything is said aloud. When this Mercury meets Sacha's world, it lands in Sacha's own twelfth house too, which doubles the tendency toward things sensed rather than stated between them. Yet there is real friction here: Lou's Mars stands in direct opposition to Sacha's Mercury, meaning Lou's drive and impatience can collide head-on with how Sacha thinks and speaks (orb 5.71°).

At the same time, Lou's own Venus draws a tense square to Sacha's Mercury, so charm and affection don't always land smoothly on Sacha's reasoning — there can be a sense of being loved without quite being understood, or understood without feeling loved (Lou's Venus square Sacha's Mercury, orb 0.81°). Sacha's Sun, however, reaches toward Lou's Midheaven in an easy, supportive angle, offering warmth and encouragement toward Lou's outward ambitions that can soften some of the sharper exchanges (Sacha's Sun trine Lou's Midheaven, orb 0.98°). This is not a pairing where words flow effortlessly; it is one where a lot travels beneath the surface, occasionally erupting when patience runs thin, and where real understanding has to be built rather than assumed.

The parts in copper were inserted by the calculation, not written.

What this chapter rests on

  • Lou's Mercury in Gemini at 29.50°, 12th house, rules the 3rd and 12th houses
  • Lou's Mercury in Sacha's 12th house
  • Lou's Mars opposition Sacha's Mercury, orb 5.71°
  • Lou's Venus square Sacha's Mercury, orb 0.81°
  • Sacha's Sun trine Lou's Midheaven, orb 0.98°
  • A degree written in the text is erased: only the calculation gives figures.
  • A reference to a contact that does not exist is corrected to the neighbouring contact, or removed.
  • A chapter that cites no contact is rewritten.

Step 5

What you receive

  • A synthesis, then six chapters chosen for your bond: romantic, friendship or professional.
  • For each chapter, a tendency: fluid, fairly fluid, contrasted or under strain. When the data is not enough, the chapter says so instead of inventing.
  • The facts of the calculation: every contact between your two charts, from the tightest to the widest, with the chapter where each one is read, or “not cited”.
  • Both complete charts, the orbs used and the method versions.
  • If you add questions, the answers cite the same facts as the report.
