Gemini
Everything that circulates interests Gemini: ideas, news, faces. The third sign of the zodiac, the sign of curiosity and of the spoken word, it gives any planet placed in it a taste for movement and exchange.
Air in motion
Gemini is one of the three air signs, with Libra and Aquarius. Air is the element of thought, of connection and of the right distance: it links things together, names them, compares them. It is mutable, as are Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, the signs that close one season and prepare the next. Gemini is thus air at its liveliest and most changeable, never staying still because there is always something else to connect.
Mercury, messenger of the gods, rules Gemini, one of the planet’s two domiciles. Here Mercury is nimble, playful, quick to grasp an idea and to put it another way. Jupiter, the planet of broad syntheses and convictions, is in detriment: the sign prefers questions to doctrines. Across the zodiac sits Sagittarius, and the axis between them sets detail against meaning, information against knowledge. What Gemini gathers, Sagittarius tries to unify, and each gains by borrowing a little from the other.
Quick minds, many threads
Gemini learns by dipping into everything. It moves from an article to a radio programme, from one question to the next, follows two conversations in the same room, remembers the anecdote that throws light on a subject. Its gift is mental agility: it understands quickly, translates one point of view for someone who holds another, finds the word that eases a tense moment. At any age it often keeps something youthful about it, a way of being surprised and of playing with ideas that makes its company light and lively.
The flip side of this mobility is scattering. By following whatever passes by, Gemini can skim without going deep, start without concluding, change its mind according to the last person it heard. Words sometimes arrive before feelings, and irony then serves to hold an emotion at arm’s length. Boredom is its real fear. When it chooses a few threads and follows them to the end, its curiosity loses nothing: it gains depth.
Gemini, a bond made of words
For Gemini, a bond begins with a conversation and lives as long as the conversation goes on. A friend is someone to talk about everything with, to laugh and argue with, to swap tips and ideas with; a colleague it values is one who helps it think faster. Its talent for connecting people and subjects makes it a good mediator, teacher or negotiator. In love, intellectual complicity matters as much as attraction, and the bond wears thin quickly if it falls silent or becomes predictable.
With Gemini, a relationship stays in motion: humour, plans, habits that keep renewing themselves. It needs space and freedom of speech, and soon feels cramped by jealousy or repeated reproaches. Its difficulty sometimes lies in depth: saying what it feels rather than what it thinks, staying present when the conversation turns serious. It often shows its attachment through a message sent at just the right moment, or a question proving it remembered a small detail.
