Leo

Heart, pride, the urge to create: Leo, the fifth sign of the zodiac, puts self-expression at the centre. A planet placed in this sign seeks to shine, and to warm those around it.

A fire that keeps burning

Leo is the second fire sign, after Aries and before Sagittarius. Fire is the element of confidence, enthusiasm and faith in life. Like Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius, it is a fixed sign: Leo does not try to light new fires all the time, it tends the one already burning. This is the fire of the hearth and, in the northern hemisphere, of high summer, a heat that lasts and around which people gather. Its strength lies in this constancy of heart.

The Sun rules Leo and is at home in it. Everything to do with identity, will and the joy of creating finds a natural, generous outlet here. Saturn, the planet of limits and restraint, is in detriment: the sign would rather give itself than hold back. Facing it is Aquarius, and together they make the axis that links the individual to the collective. Leo asserts what makes it unique, Aquarius recalls what belongs to everyone, and each finds its counterweight in the other.

Generosity and pride

Leo needs to express itself. It creates, plays, tells stories and brings flair to whatever it does, whether a dinner with friends or a professional project. Its gift is warmth: it encourages, it builds confidence, it knows how to make others feel they matter. Loyal, it protects those it loves with a generosity that does not calculate. It also has a sense of dignity, a way of standing tall through hardship that commands respect.

Its excess springs from the same need for recognition. Deprived of attention, Leo can feel diminished, seek the stage at any cost or take badly a criticism that is nonetheless fair. Pride sometimes stops it from asking for help or admitting a mistake. It can also confuse being loved with being admired. Its radiance holds up better when it finds the source of its worth within itself rather than in other people’s eyes.

The heart of Leo in a relationship

Leo loves with brilliance, and not only in romance. It brings its friends together, celebrates their successes, throws the party nobody else dared to organise. In a shared project, it readily takes the lead, motivates a team and gives visibility to whatever it carries, provided its efforts are recognised. In a couple, it declares itself, gives gifts, stages the important moments, and expects an attachment as wholehearted as its own.

It brings joy and loyalty to a bond, along with a talent for making the other person feel important in their own eyes. In return, it expects sincere admiration and gestures that say it has been chosen. Indifference wounds it deeply, and pride can turn a small disappointment into a lasting chill. Sharing the spotlight sometimes costs it; a sincere compliment, on the other hand, almost always disarms its pride.
