Scorpio
Nothing about Scorpio is lukewarm. The eighth sign of the zodiac, the sign of intensity and transformation, it pushes every planet placed in it to get to the bottom of things, without pretence.
Deep waters
Scorpio is a water sign, along with Cancer and Pisces, and water speaks of emotion, intuition and intimate connection. Taurus, Leo and Aquarius share its fixed modality: Scorpio does not flit about, it concentrates, it holds on, it stands firm. This is water in its densest form, the depths where light barely reaches. Its season, in the northern hemisphere, is mid-autumn, when nature strips itself bare before renewing itself.
Two planets rule it. In the traditional scheme it belongs to Mars, at home here in a form more strategic than head-on: a courage that knows how to wait. Modern astrology associates it with Pluto, the planet of what dies and is reborn, of what is hidden. Venus is in detriment, since love is lived with an intensity that goes beyond simple tenderness, and the Moon is in its fall: emotions run strong and are hard to soothe. Taurus sits opposite, and the axis between them runs from what a person owns to what they share, from stability to metamorphosis.
Intensity and clear sight
Scorpio does nothing by halves. It commits entirely or not at all, wants to understand what lies behind appearances, and often senses what goes unsaid with unsettling acuity. Its gift is depth: it can stay present in difficult moments, see someone through a crisis, look squarely at what others avoid. Its willpower is remarkable, and its capacity to get back up after an ordeal makes it a sign of resilience and transformation.
This intensity comes at a price. Fear of betrayal can make it suspicious, jealous or excessively secretive, and it may hold on to the memory of a wound for a long time. The need to master what it feels sometimes turns into a need to master others. Lukewarm situations bore it, and it may provoke a crisis rather than put up with ambiguity. Showing vulnerability feels to it like defeat; yet that is often what earns it the trust it is looking for.
Scorpio and intimacy
Scorpio lives its bonds in depth. It has few intimates, but those few can count on it in the worst moments, and it guards their secrets as its own. In love, it seeks a total union, a bond in which each person shows themselves as they are, and the physical side often holds a large place. Even at work, it would rather dig into a file, investigate or see a crisis through than skim the surface, and superficiality soon wears it down.
Its loyalty is fierce, its presence intense, and it can weather storms without running away. In return it demands complete trust and sincerity; a single lie, however minor, can be enough to end the bond. Control is its stumbling block: leaving the other person free without seeing a threat in it, forgiving without demanding amends, costs it dearly. People rarely come out of a bond with Scorpio unchanged, and that is exactly what it hopes for: that each person becomes a little more true.
