Virgo
The sixth sign of the zodiac, Virgo notices what is missing and knows how to put it right. Attentive, precise and keen to do things well, it passes on to the planets placed in it a taste for discernment and the wish to be useful.
The earth of the harvest
Virgo is an earth sign, as are Taurus and Capricorn: the element of the concrete and of what can be checked. It is also mutable, alongside Gemini, Sagittarius and Pisces: in the northern hemisphere, Virgo closes the summer and prepares the turn to the next season. This is harvest time, when the wheat is separated from the chaff, when things are put away and stores are laid in. Virgo is thus the most adaptable form of earth, flexible so as to organise better.
Mercury rules Virgo and is exalted there too, a case unique among the traditional planets. Here, Mercury is no longer the quick messenger of Gemini but the mind that analyses, classifies and refines. Jupiter is in detriment, since sweeping generalities run up against detail, and Venus is in its fall, affection being expressed with more reserve and higher standards. Pisces is its opposite, and the axis they share links order and surrender, analysis and trust, precise service and boundless compassion.
The art of a job well done
Virgo notices what escapes others: the typo, the forgotten step, the movement that would save time. Its gift is discernment, the ability to see what is off and to know how to improve it. It likes to be useful, modestly, and often finds more satisfaction in careful work than in applause. Methodical and reliable, it can turn chaos into a system, and people often realise how much it was doing only on the day it stops.
The other side of this talent is perfectionism. Once trained on flaws, its eye does not always switch off, and criticism can turn towards others or, more often still, towards Virgo itself. Worry pushes it to control everything, to prepare for every contingency, to doubt what has in fact gone well. It sometimes loses itself in details to the point of forgetting the goal. The standards it holds itself to are often harsher than those it shows others, and that is where it most lacks indulgence.
Virgo in the everyday of its bonds
Virgo loves through actions. It is the one who helps with the move, reads over the file, thinks of the detail that makes a friend’s or a colleague’s life easier, often more comfortable as the expert than in the spotlight. In a romantic relationship it opens up slowly: it observes, it checks, then it commits seriously, and its tenderness comes through practical care more than through declarations.
What it offers fits in a few words: reliability, attention, real availability for the other person’s needs. It appreciates clarity and order, and being thanked for what it does without fuss. Its difficulty lies in criticism: remarks it believes helpful can be received as reproaches. Letting someone take care of it demands more effort than looking after them, and it is often in this reversal that the bond deepens.
